Automobile Insurance Claim Provo, Utah UT
Reader’s Question:
I bought a new car last month and it is paid off. I got involved in a crash and I was at fault, my question is, will my insurance in Provo, Utah cover the vehicle or just the other party?
Pierce
Provo, UT
This will actually depend upon what auto insurance coverages you have put on your new car. If you have the comprehensive and collision coverages then your vehicle is protected by your car insurance policy. So if you are at fault in a crash your liability coverages would cover cover your own car and those that you caused damage to.
If you did not place collision coverage on your car, then you would not have any coverage on your car and so could not make a car insurance claim.
Most drivers that have a new vehicle will want to protect their vehicle, by placing both comprehensive and collision coverages on the car. Those with a lease or loan on a car will normally be required to have the physical damage coverages of comprehensive and collision on their vehicle. If an individual owns more than what a vehicle is worth they would also want to obtain GAP insurance that would cover the balance between what the automobile is worth and what they owe on the vehicle.
If you are not sure of what car insurance coverages you have on your car insurance policy in Provo, Utah, then read over your car insurance policy and talk with your car insurance agent for verification. If you do have collision coverage on your car insurance policy then you could place a first party claim with your insurance company for the damages your vehicle sustained in an at-fault accident.

Auto Insurance Provo Utah UT
Reader’s Question:
Is it possible for car insurance company to cancel or non-renew a policy after its inception date? What are usually the reasons for insurance companies to do this? I got my car insurance in Provo, UT.
Tara
Provo, UT
Yes. There are cases that insurance companies cancel a policyholder’s insurance after it has been issued. Many state insurance regulators have set restrictions on when and why an insurance policy can be canceled after its inception date. For example, in the state of California, there are only three reasons an automobile policy can be canceled/non-renewed once it is issued. (1) Fraud or material representation; (2) Non-payment of premium; and (3) Substantial increase against hazard.
Cancellation notices should be mailed to you at your last known address stating the reason at least ten (10) days prior to the cancellation’s date effectivity for nonpayment of premium, and twenty (20) days for all other reasons. As for nonrenewal, notices must be forwarded to you at least thirty days (30) before expiration. Upon your written request, the company will give you the reason for your policy’s nonrenewal and this should be stated on the nonrenewal notice. These notices also serve as a reminder for the policyholder and give him an opportunity to pay the past due premium and keep the policy in force (if nonpayment is the issue) or to secure other insurance. I would suggest contacting your Provo, UT insurance agent to find out more information on regulations regarding auto insurance cancellations and nonrenewals.
You may contact you car insurance company in Provo, UT to get more information on car insurance cancellation.

Provo Utah Gap Auto Insurance
Reader’s Question:
Can I obtain gap insurance in Provo if I had bought my vehicle 6 months ago? I live in Provo, UT.
David
Provo, UT
Yes, normally you can still buy GAP insurance for a motor vehicle in Provo even though it has been 6 months since you have bought it. You can buy GAP insurance at anytime as long as the GAP policy requirements are met.
During the early years of your vehicle’s life GAP insurance can provide valuable protection. If a covered loss happens (total loss in a collision, theft, etc.), GAP insurance will pay for the difference between the actual cash value (ACV) of the car and the current outstanding balance on your lease or loan.

Car Insurance Utah UT
Reader’s Question:
Do I insure the vehicle or the motorist in Utah? Does every person must have car insurance or is the car insurance enough?
Dean
Provo, UT
Car insurance is needed for the vehicle but the motorist will need to show proof that there is valid insurance on the car if stopped by law enforcement officer. If you own a vehicle you insure your car but you and any other licensed household members should be listed as drivers.
If you give permission to a friend that is not a member of your household to borrow the vehicle then normally they will be covered under your car insurance, but some insurance policies have exclusions in them so it is best to check with your auto insurance provider to be certain that your friend is covered by your policy before allowing a friend to drive it.
Make sure not drive your vehicle without insurance or permit someone that would not be covered by your insurance policy to do so because if an individual is convicted in a court or found through a Department of Public Safety (DPS) administrative hearing to have been driving a car without insurance, the DMV may suspend the uninsured vehicle’s registration.

Q: Should I buy my Park City SR22 through an agent or should I buy it direct?
A: Each option is a good one, although I would rather suggest buying direct, because I think it has more opportunities for saving money, as well as a higher amount of flexibility. If you buy your Park City SR22 policy direct through the car insurance company then, for example, if you move out of town you won’t have to go through any hassle. All you’ll have to do is change your address on your policy, whereas if you had an agent you would have to find a new one.
Buying through an agent requires less of your time, and so it’s good for people who are busy, but using the internet you can research and purchase your insurance so quickly that the time wasted isn’t even worth mentioning. A lot of car insurance companies discount policies which are purchased online, as well.
An agent is also a good idea for those who are new to car insurance and don’t know the ropes. However, there are many places online where you can find out about Park City SR22, so in most cases you can bypass the agent’s fee and just buy direct in one hour’s time.

Q: What kind of car should I get if I want a cheap Salt Lake City SR-22 premium?
A: You’re doing the smart thing by paying attention to your Salt Lake City SR-22 ratings before you go out and get a car. Many people simply buy the car they want, and then try and discount their high rates down once they have it. A new car will always bring higher prices, especially in the form of additional insurance coverage, so it’s important to pay attention.
First of all, take the cars you like the most and get car insurance quotes from several companies for each of them. Doing this should help you in your decision, and even if you go for a costlier car, you won’t be surprised.
Second of all, try to buy a car that has a good safety rating and plenty of safety and anti theft features. Make sure your car is medium sized, and not very small or large. Get a car which is a couple of years old rather than one that’s brand new. Buy a car which isn’t too expensive rather than one which costs thousands and thousands of dollars. Check national theft lists to make sure your car isn’t high risk.

Q: Will my credit score be considered when rating my Utah SR-22 policy?
A: Well, Utah SR-22 companies don’t really consider credit scores, but they do tend to look at credit reports. Car insurance companies actually come up with their own score, which is called an insurance risk score, based on the information in your credit report. In order to come up with this score, they look at information on your credit report which probably won’t affect your FICO score in the biggest way, such as whether or not you pay consistently, and not how much you owe or to how many places.
The importance of credit scoring in your Utah SR-22 premium will depend on the company. Several companies have done studies which give the information that people who have a bad credit history are statistically more likely to file claims, and the inverse is true for people with good credit history. However, some companies do their own studies, so if they find this has a smaller effect, then you won’t see it as such a big deal in your rating scheme.
Using credit reports to rate insurance has been controversial, with many saying the practice is discriminatory. However, it’s here for now, so one of the best ways to get cheap Utah SR-22 is to improve your credit history.

Q: My teenager is on my Provo SR22 policy (I’m the one who has to have the SR22), and I was already struggling with it and she just sent my rates up even higher! Can she get her own policy?
A: It depends on how old she is. Most car insurance companies won’t allow a driver under the age of eighteen to purchase their own policy, so you may have to keep her on your Provo SR22 insurance. Even if you do have to do this, you can get discounts to make the pain of adding a teenager onto your car insurance a little less terrible.
One discount you should look into is the good suden discount. Offered to college or high school students who can demonstrate that they have either a B average or a 3.5 GPA in their courses, this is had by most companies and ranges up to twenty percent. You have to be sixteen or older to qualify for it by most companies, though.
If your daugher hasn’t taken a driver’s education course, then make sure you enroll her in one of those as well. You’ll be able to get yet another discount off your Provo SR22 insurance premium for this.
Utah non owner SR22

Q: What is a Utah non owner SR22 policy?
A: As someone who is required to file an SR22 form in order to get your license unsuspended, you will be required to do so regardless of whether you own a car or not. If you do not own a car, then instead of getting a normal SR22 insurance policy, you will instead be required to file Utah non owner SR22 car insurance. Non owner insurance is not only for SR22s, but is also often used for business people who regularly drive a company car, or others who don’t own a car and drive cars of people who don’t have insurance.
Your Utah non owner SR22 policy will be more pricey than a similar owner-operator policy, but you will have to file fewer claims so long as you’re driving cars which are already insured. In an accident, the car’s insurance kicks in first, and yours second. If you buy your own car, then you will have to drop your Utah non owner SR22 policy and exchange it for an owner-operator policy.
