Auto Repair and Auto Insurance Utah UT
Reader’s Question:
Hello, I’m Barry, and I’m in Utah. What happens when my car gets in a fender bender? How will I get it repaired through the auto insurance company? Do I have other options?
Barry
West Jordan, UT
If you figure in an accident, you have two options: you can have the car repaired yourself, or you can just let the auto insurance company take care of it. The first option lets you do the leg work, and the second option, of course, offers convenience.
If you decide to handle the repair yourself, you’re basically telling the auto insurance company that you’ll be the one to look for a body shop and just let them know what’s happening. This would work if you know your way around body shop land, or if you have a body shop that you prefer. This, however, can be tiring and can eat up your time.
Now, if you decide to just sit back, let the auto insurance company handle the repair. What they would do is send an insurance adjuster to inspect your car and the damage. The adjuster will then come up with an estimate.
Auto insurance companies in Utah can’t really coerce you into choosing a particular body shop. They may give you a list of ‘preferred auto repair shops,’ but you will still have the option to choose your auto repair shop.
Now, bear in mind that the repair does not mean they’ll be upgrading your car. Do not expect that. The repair shop will consider the cost and quality of the parts that were in your car, and they will get similar car parts when they fix your car.

Q: Should I buy my Park City SR22 through an agent or should I buy it direct?
A: Each option is a good one, although I would rather suggest buying direct, because I think it has more opportunities for saving money, as well as a higher amount of flexibility. If you buy your Park City SR22 policy direct through the car insurance company then, for example, if you move out of town you won’t have to go through any hassle. All you’ll have to do is change your address on your policy, whereas if you had an agent you would have to find a new one.
Buying through an agent requires less of your time, and so it’s good for people who are busy, but using the internet you can research and purchase your insurance so quickly that the time wasted isn’t even worth mentioning. A lot of car insurance companies discount policies which are purchased online, as well.
An agent is also a good idea for those who are new to car insurance and don’t know the ropes. However, there are many places online where you can find out about Park City SR22, so in most cases you can bypass the agent’s fee and just buy direct in one hour’s time.

Q: What kind of car should I get if I want a cheap Salt Lake City SR-22 premium?
A: You’re doing the smart thing by paying attention to your Salt Lake City SR-22 ratings before you go out and get a car. Many people simply buy the car they want, and then try and discount their high rates down once they have it. A new car will always bring higher prices, especially in the form of additional insurance coverage, so it’s important to pay attention.
First of all, take the cars you like the most and get car insurance quotes from several companies for each of them. Doing this should help you in your decision, and even if you go for a costlier car, you won’t be surprised.
Second of all, try to buy a car that has a good safety rating and plenty of safety and anti theft features. Make sure your car is medium sized, and not very small or large. Get a car which is a couple of years old rather than one that’s brand new. Buy a car which isn’t too expensive rather than one which costs thousands and thousands of dollars. Check national theft lists to make sure your car isn’t high risk.

Q: Will my credit score be considered when rating my Utah SR-22 policy?
A: Well, Utah SR-22 companies don’t really consider credit scores, but they do tend to look at credit reports. Car insurance companies actually come up with their own score, which is called an insurance risk score, based on the information in your credit report. In order to come up with this score, they look at information on your credit report which probably won’t affect your FICO score in the biggest way, such as whether or not you pay consistently, and not how much you owe or to how many places.
The importance of credit scoring in your Utah SR-22 premium will depend on the company. Several companies have done studies which give the information that people who have a bad credit history are statistically more likely to file claims, and the inverse is true for people with good credit history. However, some companies do their own studies, so if they find this has a smaller effect, then you won’t see it as such a big deal in your rating scheme.
Using credit reports to rate insurance has been controversial, with many saying the practice is discriminatory. However, it’s here for now, so one of the best ways to get cheap Utah SR-22 is to improve your credit history.

Q: What is a Utah non owner SR22 policy?
A: As someone who is required to file an SR22 form in order to get your license unsuspended, you will be required to do so regardless of whether you own a car or not. If you do not own a car, then instead of getting a normal SR22 insurance policy, you will instead be required to file Utah non owner SR22 car insurance. Non owner insurance is not only for SR22s, but is also often used for business people who regularly drive a company car, or others who don’t own a car and drive cars of people who don’t have insurance.
Your Utah non owner SR22 policy will be more pricey than a similar owner-operator policy, but you will have to file fewer claims so long as you’re driving cars which are already insured. In an accident, the car’s insurance kicks in first, and yours second. If you buy your own car, then you will have to drop your Utah non owner SR22 policy and exchange it for an owner-operator policy.

Q: Am I required to keep West Jordan SR22 insurance on an older car?
A: If you are required to have Wes Jordan SR22 insurance at all, then you are required to have it no matter what kind of car you have, even if you don’t have a car at all. If you want to keep a hold on your driver’s license, then you have to have an SR22 on file with your DMV every month until the end of the three year filing period.
If you feel you are wasting money on your premiums for your West Jordan SR22, then you should consider whether or not driving is something necessary to you. If the answer is no, then think about letting your car insurance not renew and keep your license suspended until the end of the three years.
If the answer is yes, then you can try other ways of lowering your premium rates. Cut the coverage on your West Jordan SR22 policy down to just the minimum liability required by Utah car insurance law, and if you think it’s safe, you can cut down the limits of that liability coverage as well. Cutting your coverage will save you hundreds, and you can pocket a few more bucks by paying all at once.
